Strange I have 10.1.1 and iTunes claims this is the latest version.

Odd... the store is showing 10.1.2.
Did you use the iTunes "Check for updates" or Software Update? I used the latter.

It's just been pointed out to me elsewhere that the Windows version is often a day or so behind the Mac one... could that be relevant?

Didn't notice how long mine took - but it was fast enough and my Virgin connection was not at its fastest when I was doing it.

iTunes update said that the existing version was the latest one, however software update said that there was a new version. I guess they're not in sync.
