Startup Manager and bluetooth

i can't seem to get to the Startup Manager screen on my 07 ally imac using my bluetooth keyboard. is that normal?

i can get it to boot from the install cd by holding C at startup, but holding Option does nothing. just boots from the HD. i don't have a USB keyboard since mine packed up.

i can choose boot disc on restart from System Preferences, but it would be nice if i could choose my SuperDuper backup if my internal drive fails.
