I have had a search on here but cannot see that anyone else has posted an issue with their keyboards following the upgrade to Lion.
I can no longer get any keys to continue to do a series of letters by keeping the key depressed, this means repeating the key stroke for as many times as you need - the only exception is the full stop. I have tried going into system preferences and setting the keyboard to fast repeat to no avail. Any ideas anyone? This has happened on my MacBook and my iMac and doesn't matter whether the keyboard used for the iMac is wired or wireless.
I will update my strap line following this post.

i'm sure i read that was a "feature" of Lion, but i've just tried it on my Lion iMac and it does repeat letters as before.

How strange. I will have to continue to find a solution particularly as the kids like to repeat letters and will now find this soooooooo annoying

Yep blu-tooth keyboard on Lion does no repeats on the letters.

So it doesn't, I'd never noticed that.

Open terminal
Enter into the terminal
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
restart the computer.
It's now back! This really annoyed me at first
I saved the solution on my phone when I found it. Hope it helps someone

I stayed with SL so can't comment much, but might it depend whether an upgrade or a clean install was performed?

Thanks, UKHardy - I will give that a try on my laptop first as that is the one the family use most. I try and keep the iMac to myself
Looking at the link from defcom it seems that there has been quite a bit of debate about the change which apparently was a design change by Apple though goodness knows why - apart perhaps from getting an easier way to get the different language uses of letters but I would have thought that to be a feature that few people will use. Repeat key function has been in use since computerised keyboards first came to fruition.
Thanks for various folks input on this.

I used the upgrade method on my MacBook and iMac just after upgrading to IOS5 on my iPhone 4, my wife's iPad 1 and my iPad2. All went well I am pleased to say

Basically all the 'symbol' keys but non of the alphabetic or numeric keys, incidentally the 'delete' key also repeats.
