Just saying. Thank goodness for TM. Make sure your backup is up-to-date.

Yep. People are reporting no problems with that approach. But, from all accounts, you may have to try a few times to get a good download.

As the updates to Lion Server sound quite useful, I tried the combo update. Same result - an unusable machine. At least the TM restore is quite quick.

I'm going to give up on this one until Apple get their act together (but just trying the "verify disk" and "repair permissions" options first).

Nope. Repair disk and repair permissions did no good, so it's back to TM again. Be sure you have a good TM backup before applying this one. (Perhaps I'm just unlucky or it's just Server that has the problem. I'm glad this is just a home server, not a production one!)

Not impressed, Apple.

The main iMac has a dedicated Time Machine drive (a 4TB Drobo Unit). I'll try my MBP first as that has nothing of importance on it (I'll still do a TM backup of it first though).

I have now done both the iMac and the MBP using the client combo updater and so far all is well.

There is a fix to be found online, but you need the combo update available.

Ironically, despite the fact so many real Mac users are having a problems, the combo update took ages to install (over 30 mins) on my Hackintosh server, but it worked wonders. In particular, it solved all the SMB authentication, sharing and copying issues I was having that made Lion essentially unuseable as a media server for my Windows Media Center box (I reverted to 10.6 on a different partition in the interim). It even boots faster!

Tried that. Same result - an unusable system. Lucky I have unlimited download allowance!

Next step seems to be OS reinstall.

No problems here using client software update on my macpro.
