Wet keys

White MacBooks are not waterproof are they?!?

At least not Sauvignon-proof...

I thought it was only a few drops and I mopped them up.

The 'Q', 'A' and 'Z' keys are affected... Either not working or putting 4-5 odd characters...

Annoyed is not the word!!!!

Any ideas???

Hmm. Tricky. The problem will be the sugars in the wine, rather than the liquid.

Does the keypad no lift off (can't visualise the white MB keyboard). Are the keys demountable? And do you have an Apple Store anywhere near.

A quick google doesn't come up with good news...

Basically, you can't (safely) clean it yourself, Apple will charge you an arm and a leg to clean it for you and both arms and legs to replace it

(That's for a MacBook Pro, but I'd guess the same applies to a MacBook)

The keys DO prise off and I've dried them as best I can...

I've done a quick STW for videos of how to disassemble the MB

Is off now and I hope letting it dry will be all I need.

No... Neither did mine...

From experience of older keyboards, make sure you have cleaned the offending liquid, before allowing to dry.

This is both to avoid the corrosive effects long-term; and the sugars crystalising in the short term.

A visit to http://www.ifixit.com/ might be useful as you should find a step by step set of strip down instructions for your Mac. It may be possible to remove the keyboard, give it a thorough wash in deionised water then allow it to dry for a few weeks.

If that fails then you may be able to pick up a replacement keyboard for a reasonable price from somewhere like this

Was in London for a meeting so booked a Genius appointment and a few mins later had booked the 'wet' MacBook in for the repair (which involves the whole top case).

I cannot believe any other manufacturer would be able or willing to offer this service.

Is well out of warranty but was almost floored by how cheap it was...

Funny, I fixed a water damaged Macbook keyboard for someone after Apple told him it'd cost £600 for them to fix it.

Are you trying to repair the keyboard, or recover the Sauvignon for further use?
