Groups - Special Interest

In the past I have created and used YAHOO for Special Interest Groups.

There are now some unattractive restrictions on YAHOO Groups, such as restrictive limits on total size of FILES Section [only 100 MB ].

There are alternatives, such as Google Groups, which seem to have fewer restrictions.

Any one used alternatives to YAHOO Groups, in an Apple environment?

Are they in practice any better than YAHOO?
