Lost my Password Imac set up ...Keychain

When i first set this Imac up i was asked for a password and now i have forgotten,spent hours and hours trying various things i thought it was but to no avail.

Everytime i try and install any updates im asked for the original password and its doing my head in,when i type it in 3 times wrongly i am asked if i wont to set up a new password.

Daft thing is when you do this it wants the one i dont know to reset and put another password in,how stupid is this ?

I have been in the keychain but this also wants the original password to show all keys .......

Any help much appreciated.

I think if you start up the iMac from the original install disk, then under the 'Utilities' menu there should be an option to reset your password. ( Not the hardware password).

Don't have any install disk as the O/S was already on here,but thanks for the advice and i will be ringing Apple later.

if you have an Apple store nearby take it in and they will help.

No problems mate i rang apple up this morning and they sorted it and reset the password and keychain .
