iPhone 5 & Nano SIM

[link to this post]

Not entirely sure which forum to post this, but, here goes smile

I will be getting an iPhone 5 when they are out. I currently have a contract with Orange and a Samsung Galaxy Note with a mini SIM.

In order to get my number transfered to a Nano SIM, can I just pop into an Orange shop and get it changed over?

Will I be forced onto a new contract, new tarriff, charged anything etc?

I got the Samsung about 4 to 6 months ago and have about 18 months to run on my contract so not interested in taking out a new one or anything, just want my number on the Nano SIM so I can use the iPhone 5.

Any help appreciated.

I asked Vodafone and they said no problem, so Orange should do it too.

Or get a sharp knife and a belt-sander... wink

Well, I don't think I will be crafting myself a new SIM, but I was wondering whether the dodgey phone unlocking guys outside many Tesco stores can do a transfer from one to the other. Will check this weekend.

Orange are fussy with their SIMs, same as Three.

Vodafone are happy to do SIM-swaps whilst you wait but last time I tried to do either of the business phones on the networks above (was Orange, now Three), they both had to send me a new one in the post leaving me without service until I had received it.

Orange for some strange reason make you ring up and order a new sim, certainly did for me going to micro sim, the shops point blank refused to give me one, after that you get activate online, so thats easy.
Voda I know used to just let you pick them up and transfer online.
Biggest problem with Orange is when they get them, I heard a rumour its wasnt going to be until October for the nano sims.

Just spoke with orange and took a while to get them to understand what a nano sim was and that this is all k wanted, not an iphone 5, just the sim to work in one. Ghen the palava of them trying to convince me to get an iphone 5 from them blah blah blah. Tbis isnt going to be easy........

Probably the same reason as Three.

The SIMs have to be matched to your account. Three issue a SIM based on 4 different HLRs, and the one you get depends on what your account is set to.

I suspect Vodafone do this differently.

Orange are a god awful network! My work phone is orange and I struggle to get signal. Lots of people at work are experiencing problems.... I now use my personal phone for work...and that's on Three!

I did some testing a while ago when I was commuting cross-country and I found EE gave the best roaming coverage.

As expected, phoned back today and was told they won't have any Nano's in for a few weeks, and it is still undecided whether they will cost as either a one off or a monthly charge.

Thanks Orange, great planning and customer care!

Update: Just spoke to Orange on 150, they put me through to the iPhone department who have ordered a Nano SIM FOC.

Not convinced until it arrives, but, a step in the right direction at least.

I also spoke to them on Monday and was able to successfully order a nano sim free of charge, and that I should be with me in 3 working days. I think it's a case of speaking to the right person, the first two I spoke to said no. But I kept raining back on different days and the response gradually changed. Apparently ts supposed to be a 3.50 charge to swap on a sim only contract but he lady removed this for me without me asking, making it free of charge.
