I have no idea how significant this is - just stumbled across this link while trying to get my aged Browsers to work.

If you are worried about this sort of thing you could try Little Snitch:

I've been using it for years and it's amazing how many apps phone home. No connection with company btw.

Also use (and recommend) Little Snitch. It is truly staggering how often Google apps phone home...

Unfortunately, as one of the posters in the linked forum says, security against stupidity does not exists.
