Apple MacBook Pro (Late 2011) 13inch - Issue

My MBP (i5 2.2ghz, 320gb, 4gb ddr ram) started to randomly turn off, and i had to do SMC resets to get it back on, but it kept happening more and more.

The laptop itself was just back 4 months ago from a repair where it fell and was damaged.

I sent the laptop back to the company who say its liquid damage and is not covered under the original claim... strange thing is i never have liquid near it.


I'm guessing it needs a new board. What would be the best way to sort this...

-Book a genius bar appointment

-Take to an independant repair shop

-Get the parts online and pay someone for the labour.

Worst case will be another house insurance claim which I'd rather stay away from.

This - if in doubt go to Apple.

(somewhere in the back of my head is the idea that their might be a recall on this model, but I wouldn't want to be quoted)

Also get Apple to check the water damage sensor!

I'll wait for the insurance company to return it and book a genius bar appointment.

I really dont know how it could be liquid damage... I think it maybe a fob off.

Just want to find the cheapest way to resolve

Mine is 13inch model but mine was doing the same thing... the fans would go nuts and id get the spinning rainbow cursor... it actually done it before it shut down the first time.

The machine is well out of the year warranty.... so i guess a new Logic Board is what i need

Minimum allowable warranty on consumer goods is 2 years under EU law and six years under the Sale of Goods Act if there was an inherent defect.

I find it very hard to believe liquid damage, i'm going to take the a genius bar and see what they think when it gets back to me.
