OS UPDATE YOSEMITE

Been happily using OS X 10.8.5 for some time now.
It has been mildly irritating to get a frequent reminder to update.
But if it works, why meddle with it?
Now getting reminders for YOSEMITE.
Probably have to surrender and update, and suffer the risk of dealing with unwanted 'improvements' aka 'added complexity'.
But it looks as if YOSEMITE is still buggy.

When I try to update OS, will it be possible to update to just the version before YOSEMITE?
That version should by now be fairly clean.

I assume you mean Mavericks?

Afaik the answer is No, unless you know someone who took the precaution of creating a bootable install DVD/USB stick/SD card when they upgraded to it.

As I did for Mountain Lion, and it's come in handy once or twice when I needed to re-install 10.8 after 10.9 was released!

I have such a file it is 5.31 GB

Many thanks for the two responses.
I have discussed these with the owner of the MBP and we will probably just wait for YOSEMITE to settle down and go that route, with fingers crossed. That way we will only have one set of 'new improved' features to deal with.
