Reclaiming space on MacBook Pro

I need to clear some junk off my MBP - got 2GB back tonight - but need to get rudi of more stuff.

Is it safe to remove all the dmgs for Neo-Office patches that I have installed in the past ?

I always did, just kept the latest one. Never had any problems.

Why not put all the dmgs on a USB stick? Realistically, how often are you going to need quick access to any of them?

I always managed to recover a bit of space using the app Monolingual - it removes all the language files you don't need. That said I've not used it for a while, so not sure if it works on Yosemite or Mavericks.

Hmm - that does look useful . Must work out what languages I do use - English , French, Ukrainian , occasionally Portugese

Could be well worth looking and seeing what I can clean out with that.

Is it likely to restore some space ?

Disk Inventory X I find is quite handy.

Monolingual would be a last resort, and only really useful when needing to shrink the OS as small as possible e.g. a USB boot disk

When you are cleaning out the languages you are removing the information that applications and OSX display in the specific languages. You do not need the non English text to write and spell check in French. The only reason to keep other languages is if you share the computer with a French person.

Take a look at Macaroni, it will get rid of the language files you do not need as well as ensuring that the Caches and Log files are correctly disposed with on a Daily, Weekly and Monthly basis.

I assume you are emptying the trash via Finder periodically.
