Failing DVD drive?

I have a 2009 iMac 24" running El Capitan that I have had since new.

Recently, I have had issues when adding music to my iTunes that when i put a disc in it does not recognise that it has been put in. Pressing eject does not respond and I end up having to reboot to get the disc out.

Is this s sign of a failing drive or another issue?

I'd suspect the drive. If it is one of those Pioneer slot loaders as was used in MB and MBP, they are a right PITA. Amazed it lasted this long.

Can they be swapped easily? How much is a new drive likely to cost?

Have you thought of using an external drive? It will cost you around £25.

Probably better to get a cheap external one - not sure about swapping, since it is ages since I've look at an iMac.
