Sync outlook.com email calendar with iPhone calendar app!

First my apologies if this is the wrong board to post this, if so I would appreciate directions where to post about this issue.
I personally do not own an iPhone this is for a friend!
I have been asked by a friend who is a religious minister how he can sync his outlook.com email account calendar with his iPhone calendar app.
What he would like to achieve is for the minister's secretary sitting in her office to enter appointments in the outlook.com calendar on the web NOT on a Microsoft Office Outlook application and for the minister to be able to see the appointment on his iPhone calendar app when he is away from the office on his travels.
I am told that the email either has to be set as Exchange ActiveSync, which I do not know what it is or to download Outlook for iOS app on his iPhone which I suspect would not sync with the iPhone calendar app.
Any detail steps to enable to achieve outlook.com calendar with iPhone calendar app would be most appreciated as I am not technologically knowledgeable.

It should just be possible to go into settings, accounts and passwords. In there configured the account as an outlook.com account and it should do all the other settings for you. That will then use the on-phone mail and calendar apps which will sync with outlook.com

I assume you mean these steps:-
1. Launch Setting App
2. Tap on Setting app
3. Tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendar
4. Tap on Add Account
5. Tap on Outlook.com
6. Enter your Outlook user name and password and then tap on �Next�
7. Choose services which you like to enable such as:-
Calendars and then tap to �Save�

Without doing it all the way through that is I think correct - it isn't that hard to setup accounts on an iPhone and most people could probably work it out even if it isn't exactly those steps (certainly the first 6 are correct).

The steps I described above did not work and apparently to sync Outlook.com with iPhone calendar app it has to be using Exchange Active Service using Office 365.
So I decided to download Outlook for iPhone app from the Apple store and use that to sync Outlook for iPhone app on the phone with Outlook.com and leave it at that and forget about syncing the calendar between iPhone calendar app and outlook.com.
