iPhone IOS 14 update nightmare.

[link to this post]

I think I've finally got my iPhone back in working order after a nightmarish aftermath of the IOS 14 update. Battery draining itself and phone switching off minutes after showing 80% charge etc. I'm not the only one though according to this but I don't know if that's a consolation.

No battery issues for me on my iOS devices, but I mean what the hell is going on with the keyboard lag, pee poor spelling correction / word "guesses" and to cap it off many times there has been no notifications for text messages - it's driving me insane

No problems at all with a 6s.

Mine's a 6SPlus. It seems to be a problem that depends on what mix of apps you've got as well as other unknown factors and it's apparently a problem that goes back over a number of IOS updates. From what I've read, it's something to do with the OS re-indexing and working flat out in the background.

Anyway, the answer was backup, factory reset, restore from backup and it seems fine now.

Shame that not one of the four support agents I spent time with yesterday didn't just say, "Yes we are aware that this happens in some cases. What you need to do is this, this and this."

Conversely, same issues on my partners 6S along with my X.

I should add that I skipped the initial versions of 14 and only updated a week or two ago. (I think it's 14.2.)

Well I've had enough!! Replacing the phone tomorrow. Apple have got me beat!!

I thought for a day or two it might be OK, but it's not. Totally unpredictable, 100% charge one minute and then switches off 10 minutes later at 1%.

iPhone 6s working fine. Wifes iPhone 8 working fine. And related iPad working fine. No one I know that includes a 7 another 6s and a xs have reported a problem. I would back up, erase and reinstall as advised.

I did that and at first I thought it had worked but I was wrong. My final contact with Apple Support, they wanted me to post it in to have a technician repair it.

I've now got an iPhone 11 and I'm very pleased with it. The old phone is on Gumtree!

p.s. - I realise that I'm very much in the minority but I'm by no means the only person who has had the problem.

It could be the battery is failing. Check battery Health settings > battery> battery Heath. I had mine replaced over a year ago under the discounted battery replacement program. Just out of interest have you ever replaced the battery?

No it hasn't been replaced but it has 91% life left and an online remote diagnostic with Apple support indicated that the battery itself was not the problem.

Anyway it's done now. I use the phone more for listening to audiobooks and radio than making calls and the sound quality is far superior to my old phone so I'm happy to have the new one - an early Christmas present from me to me smile

I also got a Qi charger and I love that as well.

Ah .... I’d imagined from earlier posts that your experience had turned you to ‘the dark side’ for your replacement phone.

My child's iPhone SE (old version) started with the phantom battery drain last week when updated to 14.2. Youtube kids showing 60% use in just 3 minutes as reported by the "Battery" menu within Settings).

This was fixed by full reset, and not restoring from backup.

FYI - This iphone SE only ever has Youtube Kids on, no other apps (not even most of apple ones) and yet the battery drain bug still present.
