Ah, Norman Foster. Never knowingly on budget.

Typically, by not consulting with engineers. Over runs - caused because of necessary redesigns or just plan design-on-site - at Canary Wharf tube, City Hall and the Wembley arch because Norm never thought to ask how something could be achieved. Result: all less than promised at higher cost.

And all of the internal doors at ApplePark having to be properly marked up after completion, to stop people walking into them...

Pure genius.

Like him or not he has an impressive list of building to his name just like Sir Christopher Wren.

I think it’s the lot of architects to face public opprobrium, ridicule and ignorance.

Utzon was unversialy derided in Aus when they were building the opera house. Just a mere 23 year overrun 🤣. Ove Arup couldn’t figure out how to make it stay upright. Then they brought in Hall, Todd and Littlemore (poms too I think) to ‘finish things up’ once they booted Utzon out and out of the country. The HTL stuff has subsequently been panned as an atrocious travesty. Still they needed to finish it.

Now….arguably one of the most iconic modern building in the world.

It doesn't exist for most people (including me).

To be fair, there has been quite a lot of criticism of the building. E.g. https://www.architectmagazine.com/design/the-untold-... or https://www.wired.com/story/apple-campus/
