iPhone Duo

Well, it's out... here.

The reviews I've seen are generally favourable, is anyone thinking of splashing out two grand or more for one?

An unfortunate name in my opinion. It reminds me of Canesten Duo.

Buy one ? I wouldn’t be so rash.

And any way, I don’t know anybody complaining their current phone isn’t ’foldy’ enough.

Received a letter just the other day ..

Well regarded, and influential Apple commentator John Gruber is unimpressed and details all the faults. He won't buy one. I can see return rates being high.

I like the idea of the bigger screen. But, my 15 pro max is still working fine and even if it wasn't I would struggle to justify spending £2K on it. If the second generation upgrades cameras, face ID, etc then I might consider a big upgrade but it is more likely I will look to the Air 2 if they add some better features to that.

Not really no. I’ll give it another look when Duo S / Duo Pro / Duo 2 come out next year. Too many compromises and unfinished features with the Duo. I think they rushed it out. If Steve were alive he’d have had the dev team for breakfast. 🥞 😂

I think thats what Gruber is saying... the lack of FaceID and using a Watch as the workaround feels rather last minute, and the change of the UI to put the dock on the side, is not friendly to those who are left handed.... its all very odd for a very expensive product from Apple....

I've only really had much experience of Mac and their OS's, but I think that's been increasingly (albeit slowly) true of much of Apple's product range since the days of Snow Leopard frown

I’ll tell you what though , the ‘work’ phone we have to use is a Samsung … it is a brand new model … and it sucks, big time. Hideous, nasty to use, cumbersome to hold or pocket, just nasty.

I don't mind Android, I have an older OnePlus as a second phone, my work provides a 16e for business. However I do notice (coming from Apple) that the UI decisions that Google make are okay, but UI decisions made by phone vendors (including Samsung) are not of the same calibre as Google or Apple. Pixel hardly sells, but many of my friends have.

I think Apple won't lose any sleep over dropping sales, the economy is too weak, but I think all technology companies are on a slow path downwards. A unique proposition from an Indian or Chinese vendor could easily grab a lot of market share.
