Browsing on old Windows Mobile 8.1 phone?

[link to this post]

Recently I have had a couple of sites (BBC Sport and Cricinfo) which do not let me click on any of the links. This is using the default inbuilt browser. Other sites I visit are fine.

Is this a sign that the sites in question are broken (though can navigate them on my old Windows 8.1 laptop using any browser or my Android tablet using any browser) or a(nother) sign that I should be thinking about getting a new phone?

Just been having a play around and found that if I press and hold on a link that is not working then I get a drop-down menu that lets me open the link in a new tab. Good enough for me for now.

Your issue is likely the inbuilt Browser on Win Mobile 8.1

Win Mobile 8.1 is no longer supported by the vast majority of websites/services (or even by Microsoft!) and this has been the case for around 18-24 months at least.

Perhaps its time to look at upgrading to an Android smartphone?

Haydn

I keep my eye on what is available (currently Samsung S10 is top of my list) but I mostly use my phone for calls and messages and as a music / podcast player with my Android tablet to hand for other functionality (tethered to the phone if out of reach of a wi-fi hotspot). TBH I find it hard to justify the cost of a replacement to my current set up.

Some Windows phone users preferred iOS to Android, and the new iPhone SE (2020) is incredibly good value, especially if you buy it outright and use with existing SIM.

Which phone do you have? Just tried those sites on a Nokia / Microsoft 640 with Windows 10 and they seem to work. This one started with Windows 8.1 so Windows 10 might be an option.

I am an iDenier so it would have to be Android.

Lumia 820. At one point there was a W10 update on offer but that was withdrawn.
