02 data 3G down?

[link to this post]

Anyone able to get on 02 right now? Im trying to download some repos on my iPhone and it's not connecting. I phoned 202 and they said that there is a national issue but the pre recorded message before said London.

So can anyone get on?

According to El Reg, yes.

UK operator O2 is having data network problems that are making it impossible for most users to access the internet, as well as preventing data-based applications such as MMS.

Despite initial reports that the problem was down to congestion in the London area, it now seems that the whole network is refusing to carry packet data, though voice calls are operating normally.

O2 confirmed the problem to us, but couldn't say what's causing it or when a fix can be expected - suitably-qualified staff are presumably too busy to answer press enquiries. So we expect an update, hopefully with some sort of explanation, real soon. ®

The comments reveal it is not quite as black and white as that...

okay ill give that a whirl now. Cheers for that. I was aware of mobile.02.co.uk and idata.02.co.uk but didn't know they ran seperately.

EDIT: This method seems to work. Be sure to change the username to mobileweb however.

It seems to be the same again today.

I am getting the "Could not activate cellular data network" message on my iPhone.

My colleagues are all getting the same message.

Is this going to happen every Tuesday?????!!!!!

In central London it's been like this for several weeks now. Sometimes I can't even make phone calls and voice memos arrive weeks late. O2 said the network is struggling to cope with the number of connections so imagine what it will be like when Palm joins the community. I think we're beginning to see the reality of 3G networks, devices like the iPhone are so frolific they're pushing it over the edge (no pun).
