Picked up a Vodafone TopUp and Go USB modem (K3565) yesterday and I'm having a problem installing Vodafone Mobile Connect Lite onto my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop running Windows 7 RC. Installation seems to start off OK but terminated with a pop up "Error 2738. Could not access VBScript run time for custom action."
Looking through forum.vodafone.co.uk, a couple of previous entries suggest registering vbscript.dll using regsvr32, but when I do that I simply get a message suggesting a previous version has been superceded, and attempting to install the VMC again terminates in identical fashion.
I have posted an entry into the vodafone forum but replies are a little slow forthcoming. Anyone here seen similar and/or have any suggestions/solutions? (Indeed can anyone confirm that VMC Lite will run on Windows 7 RC.)

I can confirm that it works on Windows 7 RC - I ran it for a good few months before upgrading to the RTM version (64bit)..
Have you tried running as Administrator? Or using the compatibility options?
EDIT: Your post reminded me that I hadn't installed MC Lite and I am now getting the same error as you, even trying with 'Run as Administrator' and compatibility modes..

It works absolutely fine on Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64-bit for me. In fact I'm doing some speed testing right now (results to follow!)

can someone tell me what I am doing wrong. My braodband worked fine with Vista but I did a clean install to Windows 7 and cannot get it to work. TRied unistall and reinstall loads of times. When I plug in the USB connector it never finds the device. Seems to work with my base unit but not with my Dell 1555

What modem (USB Dongle) do you have?
Have you made sure you were installing in "administrator" mode (not just logged in as an administrator) if you have "UAC" enabled as is by default?

Hi,
I thing according to me vodafone dongle will work the best for your internet access as I do use this, and it benefits me so much provides me good speed and also I can access this on my windows 7 too.
Thanks!!

Using the same dongle on lite on Win 7 RTM without issue UAC is and was on, I can only surgest you try other usb ports as this has helped before on Vista when the device has not been seen.

Try getting a driver only package for your modem. Thier available online just google the model number of your dongle and drivers. I had a similar problem and just didn't bother with the vmclite software.
double check that the dongle is picked up at all in system it may come up as an unknown device or such like; open the device and choose to update driver; point the location to where you downloaded the .inf files (I used the winxp driver inf files) too and it should resolve your issue.
if the device still is not picked up try it in some other usb ports and repeat the above.

When I plug the USB modem into my laptop USB port (any of them) it shows as a DVD/CD-ROM drive in my device manager - ZCOption HSUPA Modem USB
The software will then not recognise it as a USB modem so I get no device message in the Mobile Connections of the Connect Lite software. If I go to manage devices there are no devices there. I have tried for a few days installing and reimstalling the Lit software but I think it is the fact that the device is not correctly recognised in W7 that is the problem.

Many thanks to all that have responded - much appreciated. The USB stick shows up in device manager under DVD/CD-ROM Drives as a 'HUAWEI Mass Storage USB Device' and indeed it is the autoplay on that device which appears to attempt to install the VMC Lite software from the stick. (I have tried it in all the available usb ports with no discernible difference - I can read the files but the procedure fails with a 'could not access VBScript' error.)
By coincidence I downloaded a copy of the Windows 7 EE (32-bit) RTM over the weekend (I'm currently using the Ultimate RC build 7100) so I will be installing that tomorrow and it will be interesting to see if it 'cures' the problem. If not I may go for trying dai2k's suggestion. Stay tuned...

I found this link which allowed me to install the software, but Windows does not see the modem..
EDIT: Forgot to mention: When trying to uninstall the software, the same error appears and I have had to roll back to the previous restore point..

I 'upgraded' my laptop from Windows 7 Utimate 32-bit RC to EE 32-bit RTM today and not only does the VMC Lite now install without complaint but my K3565 also connects as advertised - result.
As an aside I have also installed the betavine version of VMC onto my Dell Mini 9 running the supplied Ubuntu and, somewhat to my surprise, everything went very smoothly.

Hi mate ... I understand your frustration. This worked for me on upgrade to Windows 7 32 bit (x86).:
Download VMC 9.4 from http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enu...
Install it, choose uninstall previous version when offered.
When installed, it will place 2 shortcuts on the desktop. Right click on the Vodafone Mobile Connect shortcut, select properties at the bottom.
In properties choose the compatibility tab, check the "Run as Administrator" then hit "OK"
Reboot your computer. On reboot, wait until it's finished loading and insert your dongle. The Vodafone Mobile Connect dashboard will appear. Check to see that your dongle has been recognized in "Manage Devices" - select and edit the settings as required. Do the same under "Manage Connections".
If it's connected, you up and away, if not, remove the dongle and close the Vodafone dashboard. Wait 10 seconds, reinsert the dongle ... well as I said, it worked for me!

i had exactlt the same problem so i rang up the vodafone engenieers and they said its because they havent released the new software for windows 7

I had exactly the same problem ... registering the vbscript.dll didn't help, so i tryied the following steps (this solved the problem!!):
1. search regedit.exe, right click on it and select Run as administrator
2. Find this key and delete it:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}
Now done with regedit.
3. Register the vbscript.dll as described by the following steps:
4. Run Command Prompt as administrator
1.1 Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories
1.2 Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator
5. If you are using 32-bit version of Windows:
Type cd %windir%\system32 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter
If you are using 64-bit version of Windows:
Type cd %windir%\syswow64 into the Command Prompt and hit Enter
6. Type regsvr32 vbscript.dll into the Command Prompt and hit Enter

The better and easier way to do it is uninstall all VMC software, disable autorun on cd drives (how to can be googled and found easily), go to device manager and uninstall all the devices related to the vodafone device (usually 2 devices seen under USB) and restart your computer.
Once restarted and logged in install the latest version of VMC9.4 and restart and then log in and connect your device.
Should be all up and running without any glitches. In case it doesn't work you may want to check if you have uninstalled all devices related to the vodafone device and follow the steps again.

Im also having problems with my vmclite as I originally had it when i had vista on previous laptop. Approx 2 months ago bought new laptop with windows 7 installed it worked fine untill couple of days ago then it will not connect automatically, i have to click on icon and dial up connection so i have no way of reading any messages that are sent to dongle on charges and usage, its a flaming nuisance. I contacted vodafone and told me to take dongle and laptop to a vodafone store for updating????? so ive decided to change network if thats the best vodafone can do.

Dear Anonymous
Thank you very much for the tip about the vbscript.dll It is the only thing that gets my 3G to work.
Might you have any suggestions on how to get my Windows 7 to pick it up permanently? At the moment, as soon as I log out, the 3G icon disappears and I have to re-boot my computer and run the whole Command Prompt procedure again (retyping it as one can't copy and paste in Command Prompt)
I am happy to do so to get internet, but am sure some computer gurus will have a way of doing it once-off.

For anyone having problems with the huawei modems on win 7 , just install mobile partner latest update , its a software released once from huawei working on all modems on all windows , it was then recalled from huawei due to the reaon that you could basically connect on other networks than your provider . it may be difficult to find on the net . It worked for me on win 7 .

A quick post to advise of an issue that I found prevented the installation of the Vodafone software on a friends computer. Apparently, some versions of McAfee AV as installed on many laptops when new can cause a problem even if the software has been uninstalled. Find a copy of McAfee's MCPR.exe and run this to remove remnants of the software from the computer and the Voda software will then install.

Just worked on a problem on my f/g's Vaio running Windows 7 and the Vodafone dongle K3570-Z. It WAS working before a horrible virus infection (now cleared) and then didn't work.
Tried all the usual things; uninstalling & reinstalling Vod software and using the hdrvtool (which at first appeared very scary as it removed and reinstalled all device drivers!)
EVENTUALLY FOUND A SOLUTION
I went to System/Device Manager while the device was plugged in, and saw 2 little yellow triangles within the USB root icons (MBB mass storage device & Mobile Broadband device)
All I did was simply double click on each and selected uninstall. Next time I plugged the dongle in, all ran perfectly and she's now online.

I had the same problem.
Deleting the registry keys didn't work.
Apparently, there was an incomplete McAfee antivirus uninstall.
Fortunately, there is a McAfee removal tool which does the uninstall job properly.
I ran the removal tool and had no VbScript errors since.
