Vodafone PAYG SIM restriction

[link to this post]

Just got a PAYG Vodafone dongle and SIM for my laptop. My Toshiba laptop has a generic 3G broadband in it, integrated into the laptrop itself. Had been using a "3" Network SIM in it with no problems. With the Vodafone SIM it refuses to connect or rather get an IP Address. The Vodfone SIM works fine in the Vodafone dongle. Bit annoying, anybody come across this sort of restriction before.

Does it get signal? If so, the SIM is working.

Are you using the correct APN? It may still be trying to use the 3 APN.

There's no APN setting in the software, so I doubt its that. Signal strength is fine with internal laptop modem, it just refuses to assign a IP address when I try to connect as if they have a MAC address filter set or something.

Have you tried the VMC? (Vodafone Mobile Connect) software to see if that will work with the 3G modem that is built in?

I have a somewhat similar problem with my '3' SIM.

I works fine (in the dongle which came with it) when connected to my laptop, but it refuses to 'connect' when I put the dongle in my Draytek 2820 router.

Mine is the opposite way round. The Vodafone SIM will only work in the Vodafone dongle, but my "3" SIM will ork in Dongle or Laptop.

The Vodafone software will only work with the Vodafone dongle and the Vodafone SIM.
