Wireless PAYG dongle

[link to this post]

Hi

I have been asked to look for a wireless payg dongle for the inlaws for when they are away from home at the weekends. It is only needed for light use.

On looking around they all seem to have a 30 day time limit on the credit which is no good.

I there any of the providers doing payg dongles without a time limit on the credit?

Thanks

Vodafone used to do a 1-gig non-expiring SIM, but only recently changed it to a 30-day SIM.

However, if you check out ebay, you can still buy the old-stock non-expiring versions from some sellers.

For just ONE example (not the cheapest) ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VODAFONE-PAYG-SIM-1GB-DATA-15-...

They do a day/week/month usage top up, so that may help with the light usage. Plus, they are only £8.99 at the moment and soon you'll be able to use Oranges network as well as T-Mobiles for no further cost. (So if there is good Orange coverage but poor T-Mo, it'll help with that).

Are all networks available to them when they go away? - Preferably with 3G which I think some dongles need..

My dad has one of the old Vodafone 1 gig non- expiring SIM types, it is perfect for his needs but coverage in his area is dire despite Vodafone saying otherwise (just about capable of connecting, web browsing and reading emails. That's it!
I don't know of any other non expiring dongles

Perhaps an external antenna may help your father?

The K3565 which is supplied by Vodafone does have an internal socket for a standard 3G card antenna. Just drilling a small hole in the plastic casing exposes it.
