I visted my local 3 store this morning and bought a sim free Huawei E367 HSPA+ dongle for £59.99 to use with my 15GB package.
Got back home, uninstalled the 3connect software from the ZTE MF112 and plugged in the new Premium Dongle then installed the software and new drivers package.
The ZTE was faster than my land line but required very careful positioning for best performance. The E367 connected and I went straight to speedtest.net and the speed needle went to 5 and continued to climb. In comparison the ZTE usually went straight to 3 and climbed.
Both dongles were showing 5 full bars at my location but the E367 is noticeably faster and for the last few hours at least has consistently held to the high speeds.
Some speedtest.net results from the E367 this morning, all above 6 meg down and 1.6 up.

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1242365535.png ........ 8.17Mbs ? really ?
This has left my land line standing, I wonder what the speeds will be like when 3 upgrade their network again this year. This dongle in combination with a Samsung Galaxy S2 which will also be HSPA+ will provide Internet access at speeds I could only have dreamed of from my land line.

Also bought one yesterday & am getting similar speeds. have it plugged into my new Draytek Vigor 2800VN so I can use it for VOIP as well. I have asked vivaciti to cancel my landline package, not there fault that my exchange is so far away, but this rocks

If you do a test in Covent Garden before all the shoppers arrive, on O2 I can get over 10Mbps. WC2H is the post code if anyone wants to try hitting the theoretical 14Mbps max on 3.

I'd do some real world speedtests instead, since bandwidth really isn't much of an issue now.
Get a browser that saves multiple tabs, eg opera, save 10 graphics heavy sites, and see how long it takes to load em.

Managed to get this on mine today. My soon to be cancelled landline as a comparison

Ping is the only problem, hoping they can lower it before 4g comes (which I doubt we'll see until 2015).

This actually looks like a reasonable landline replacement. But I wonder how long their AYCE deal will last when it gets put to the test? I mean, I could take the pee and download 100s of GB with a phone tethered to my LAN, but surely that would kill their network if enough did it. IMO it's just a 6 month gimmick to get customers tied to 2 year contracts.

|
|
if it's a GENUINE AYCE deal, and they amend the T's and C's does it not constitute a change of conract?
ie can you not leave without penalty?

Did you have any issues using your new dongle with the DrayTek 2820?
My Huawei E156G just will not connect with the 2820 - although it is fine plugged into the laptop.
Line One:- Zen - DrayTek Vigor 2600VG
Line Two:- EntaNet (Aquiss) - DrayTek Vigor 2600

On a 2820Vn some 3g dongles were not recognised until after upgrading the firmware to 3.3.4, build date 15/6/2010, so it may be that your dongle needs a newer version .

The thing is, high speeds are all well and good but at 8mbps you have 4.2 hours usage a month if you have 15GB a month, making the thing useless and the speed pointless.
I mean, it may as well be 1 gbit internet with 15GB a month usage, it would be equally useless.

Thanks.
Will check that out.

Lol.
Usage is not the only factor. Yes 15GB is not much these days but for most people this is plenty. Speed is important too, there is no point in 15GB usage if it takes too long to download that you will never be able to use 15GB in a month.
I guess your are one of the people maxing out your connection 24/7 downloading pointless [censored] from usenet or/and bittorrent!
