I have now received my E367 and thought i would upgrade my firmware on my Edimax 3g 6200n to 2.2 to see if i would need to change the router.

To my complete surprise this simply plugged straight in and worked perfectly providing me with a peaked download of 6.96 Mbps.

Great little router for a bargain price.

Excellent! I've got the same Edimax router (already has the 2.2 firmware) and was wondering if that dongle would work with it... On to placing my order now smile Thanks for sharing the info!

Got my E367 dongle from 3 mobile today (decided to go in store), and just confirming that yes indeed, it works with the Edimax 3G 6200n with firmware v2.2 without issue. It correctly displays as a "huawei E367" on the modem status page.

According to the status page, I'm getting a 58% signal (in W6 area), which is already an improvement from what I had in the past, but I am *really* impressed about the speeds I'm getting now. With all the high buildings and interference in the area, I've generally been achieving around 2 Mbps tops. I'm now running double that and ping times have been reduced to about 80ms-ish (that's with the WiFi router in the middle). I have taken those "up to 40% faster speeds" ads with a large grain of salt, but in my case it really did make a difference smile

Oh, and these dongles also have a little plastic/rubber piece covering access to an external antenna connector (looks like a proprietary size to me - it's on the side near the SIM cover). So there's no need to hack your brand new device to boost the signal - just plug it in. Thumbs up!

And once again thanks to markthomas for being the guinea pig on trying it on the Edimax.

Generally speaking you may as well ignore compatibility lists since they're almost always way out of date.
Hope that helps others.
Be Well,
CHRIS

Hm, I have Option Icon 515 (Orange) dongle, not listed on any compatibility lists I can find,
though TP-Link has Icon 505.., close, but I would like to be sure before parting with my dosh.
Anyone with the 515 & 3G router ?
Thanks,
Martin

Hi all -

I have been following this thread as it convinced me to get a E367 dongle, to improve my down & up speeds mostly for online gaming. I am currently out of work so funds are tight and I also begrudge paying BT any money whatsoever too. I was hoping for a major boost in performance speeds over the 3 MF112 I was previously running. With the MF112 I was typically getting an average of around 2mbps down and 1mbps up. With high's of 3.6mbps and 1.3mbps during the early hours of the morning.

Since purchasing the E367 I can now get an average of 3mbps + and 1.4mbps during the day. With new high's of 5mbps+ down and 1.6mbps up during the early hours of the morning. Which is a decent gain I feel. However I am looking to improve upon this even further and have ordered a TP-LINK TL-MR3420 3G Router. Which BTW now lists the E367 on its compatibility lists.

My thinking is to position this in my bedroom and get a better signal towards the mast, which is only about 500-600 metres away. I also plan to get an antenna next, to further optimize my signals reception, for a further boost. My question is which is the best set up for optimum performance? Do I plug the antenna into the dongle or the router?

This is the antenna I am looking at:-

Any help / advice would be much appreciated!!! ;O)

Cyber snipa, if you are that close to the mast, you won't get any benefit from using an external aerial, your speeds would be limited by congestion, not signal strengh.
The router has USB port for 3G, so aerial has to be plugged in to the dongle.

Martin

Cyber Snipa, you mentioned the improvements in down/upload speeds but how much did it lower your ping?

Also at what distance does an external antenna start to be needed. Im about 2km away from the cell.

Thanks for the advice Martin. I've ordered the router now, so I'll set that up in my bedroom and hopefully it will give me a bit more of an improvement??? ;O)

Anon with regards to ping it fluctuates an awful lot. I usually just surf in the daytime and only game from 10.30pm onwards. I would say before with the MF112, the average was around the 170-180ms mark during the day previously. And it would go as low as 90ms ish in the early hours. Now with the E367 it is typically around 140-150ms during the daytime and I can go as low as 70ms in the early hours!!! ;O)

Well as regards PING, mine now seems to fluctuate between 45ms and 75ms with the E367 which is a massive improvement on the old 3 dongle.
What really seems to affect the download speeds is where the router is situated; I must have done at least 20 or 30 speedtests to find where the sweet spot was and which way to face the router. Even a couple of inches seemed to make a difference between a downloadspeed of say 3mbps and 8mbps.
I think it really pays of to experiment with the router placement.

Just did this speedtest:

@dpgs

45ms-75ms sounds great!

I take it your dongle is plugged directly into the back of your router and so they are as one hence your varying results depending on where you put your router.
