Tethering

[link to this post]

Does anyone know how to hide that your tethering on a mobile device, or hide what date your downloading so the mobile network wont know if your tethering or not?.

No need to faff around with VPNs. If you have an iphone (jailbroken) or android handset just search for 'PDANet' in cydia store or Android market and this will allow you to hide your tethering activities. Been using this for ages and works brilliantly! Not free but worth it to save tethering charges!

If you're on 3 they let you tether for free and even allow your iPhone to act as a wifi hotspot

They also do not block YouTube of iplayer like some operators

Can't go wrong!

Will this work with a samsung galaxy s2 if its not jailbroken, and will this stop the mobile network finding out how much data you've used and stop them sending you warning emails?.

How much does the app cost and how do you pay for it, will using this stop the mobile network from knowing how much i've downloaded and stop them knowing i am tethering?.

It costs $15.95 (about a tenner) but you can use it free of charge for a while to test it. You pay by paypal or credit card. The app definitely hides the fact that you're tethering but not sure if it can actually hide the usage. There is an option "hide usage" on PDANet but not tried this myself on my iphone 4. Best thing to do is search for "PDANet" on Android market (on your handset) then install it. Run it with "hide usage" enabled then see if this uses any data from your allowance. More info on PDANet here:

Thanks for your reply, i've not actually got a usage on my tarrif, its unlimited, but they dont allow you to tether thats all, and i have been using more than they would probably want you to use, or which you could use on a mobile device, i will look at that program, if needed would there be a chance you could help us set it up?.

Hmm, I must investigate. I was using my Android phone and tethering with my laptop a couple of weeks ago.

Didn't think anything of it since I have 500MB of data in my TalkMobile contract. Don't use anywhere near that, but after reading this I shot off to check my terms and conditions. Didn't see anything about tethering, just about using it for illegal content.

Hope facebook, gmail, yahoo mail and some facebook apps and games don't falll into the category of "illegal" material frown

Well, we shall see. Not had any emails or calls about it so have to assume it's ok?
