Huawei E3256 Port Forwarding

Hi,

I spotted this post earlier 'http://forums.thinkbroadband.com/mobilebroadband/4172646-huawei-e3256-router-enquiry-for-sharing.html' and as there hasn't been any posts recently I wanted to revive it and ask my own question.

I bought a 3 network Huawei E3256 premium dongle recently in the hope it would replace my home broadband provider considering the speed it obtains and its cheaper than my home service provider.

Ive also got a TP-Link TL-MR3420 to share it to my computers, I chose this as it allows port forwarding for applications and a NAS box i use as a web host.

The TP-Link setup allows the ports to be forwarded, however, it would appear that the E3256 is still blocking the ports.

Does anyone know of a way around this? Do i need to change the firmware of the E3256, if so do you have a link to a 'how to' page. Ive also seen this 'https://www.dc-unlocker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9326' which states that the firmware would need changing

I don't think this is possible. It's not the dongle, but the network. The issue with mobile data is you don't get a public IP address. You get an internal IP address which means NAT is not possible. This Wikipedia post is worth a read regarding private IP blocks.

Both my 3 data SIM cards give a public IP that you can NAT. Works well in my MiFi.

3's VOICE SIM cards give private IP and use NAT - and a different price plan.

Thats a pricey way of doing it at over £26 for 1GB of data.
Its 24p per MB so per GB thats multiplied by 1024 and there is a £2 per month charge on top of that.

Three "one plan" with tethering is cheapest I think.

2.4 not 24 but yes, around £24 for a gigabyte of data. Its aimed at people who want the service but don't use it all the time, and those who want a static IP.

I like it as I'm generally on my FTTC but when I'm out in hotels for work, I have the ability to use 3G, all for the £2 per month retainer. Rather than £10/month for 3's PAYG.

Yes if you have a Three phone then tethering on the One Plan might be good, but at £25/month, I'll stick with my £10/month T-Mobile deal

Re the E3256 Dongle & TP-Link MR3420, I'm pretty sure that your router (assuming it's v.1) doesn't support the 4G Dongle however because I've got the same router and haven't upgraded my E367 to the newer E3256 it would be interesting to know what speeds you're getting using your set up.
I think it's the v.2 version of the MR3420 which does support 4G dongles & I've seen them on the broadbandbuyer website, same name but a more curvy design. Maybe the v.2 would support port forwarding on the E3256.

So looks like you need the MR3420 v.2 and the latest firmware.

Which router version you are using: V1 or V2?

your not alone, i have exactly the same set-up. I can get the new dongle working on internet but it defaults the router back to 192.168.0.1 and the external IP the dongle generates is 192.168.1.1 if you change the router to match i.e. set lan to 192.168.1.10 then it works until the dongle logs onto network, has a hissy fit with the router and restarts.

i've got the problem where i use a voip phone by soho66 and it downloads all the time and firmware it needs, but is unable to route it's self to the internet. Plugging back in my old MF112 works like a dream. my router is running version 2 firmware.

When you look at the new dongle's stats page there is a WAN IP displayed but no way to change or get rid of it performing a router job it's self or turning off DHCP on the device and just running through 3/4G IP to the MR3420 router.
