I got another contract phone from three on Friday and it was £19 odd upfront.

Considering online the deal i got said £29.99 up front I was pleasantly surprised by this (more money for beer smile )

Link works here, for those that can't see it the 1966p (see what they did there) is only for as long as England are in world cup, so could end as soon as 1st of July.

Well what a bargain. Oh wait... subject to a 24 month contract @ £36/month = £864

So £864 + £19.66 = £883.66

Sure, nigh on a grand committed over the next two years for a phablet..... they've not gone mental, they've infested you with marketing mind worms.

You've fallen for or are perpetuating the "it's cheaper now than it used to be" ruse. It's marketing BS.
