Can anyone recommend a good 4g router?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Michael.

Although it was 'free' with my Three connection the https://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-High-speed-Wireless-... is surprisingly good. It gets decent speed, has very good wireless distance for such a little thing and I attached an external 3g/4g aerial to get an even better signal.

Saved me when moving as I didn't have internet at home for two weeks ...

Thank you for the recommendation! Seems to have good solid reviews for it and it has the 4 ethernet ports which is a plus. Exactly what i needed.

Thank you
Michael.

It does sound good, but I was confused by your "need" for four ports. I would have though one would be enough, to feed the one you currently distribute from round the house.

If that doesn't have a spare ethernet port for the input a small switch should work fine, or maybe feed one of the Access Points from a later one.

Edit: Just realised, my idea probably requires gigabit ethernet between the wireless router and the current main one.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - AAISP Home::1 80/20. 200GB. Sync 01/10/18 - 71908/13506Kbps @ 600m. BQMs - IPv4 & IPv6

I did expand in my original post but decided to delete most of what i said. I explained about taking advantage of threes recent removal of their 30gb hotspot to unlimited. Just from what i read it's a touchy subject at the moment and didn't want to start anything or feel the need to explain my reasoning for taking advantage.
Edit: Plus the need for 4 ethernet

Anyhow, i live in an old cottage with thick walls insulated to high heaven. My current setup has 3 routers connected to my main for every bedroom in the house via ethernet. I could do what you're thinking but i'm very minimalistic. If i don't need 2 then all the better.

Oh i also like that one. It's very pricey though. I like the idea of the fail over option it has should 4g fail me. I did plan on cancelling my ADSL service but i'm tempted to keep it around.

Thanks for the recommendation

Michael.

No worries.

If you're willing to sacrifice some of the features on the 8900AX, then also consider the Billion 4500NZ which is a pure 4G/LTE router only. Again its not cheap (£208) but Billion kit is normally very high quality and will last you many years.

But having such a thing and not a standard EE4G router does this solve the NAT Type 3 problems which I'm getting with EE and the 4G router.

I've seen others mention something about a vpn and another service to fix that problem. Here on the forum in fact. I'd need to go back and read through it thoroughly.

I've also heard on other forums of people requesting a public ip for their security cameras (they had no security cameras, just nat 3) and they came through and fixed their issue. Don't think this was EE though.

No, it isn't a router limitation, so the same problem will be there with any router. A good router can help in a solution though - as discussed in your "Type 3 NAT..." thread a good router can be used to manage a VPN, which can provide a solution.

I doubt EE would provide this but i will ask,im a bit confused and annoyed really as when i applied for this service given the fibre connection BT provided was not fit for purpose [1 meg at a push] they told me a EE it would work fine with online gaming and there would not be any issues.

This Type 3 is not suited for gaming to be honestly can not say i have tested it much because in a way im a little worried that it will not works have heard it sometimes works and other times it does not, and i also read that the headset chat won't work [again not tested it ]

Are you saying if i had my own IP instead of a shared one then i would not get type 3 NAT.

I will do almost anything to get this online Gaming and no Type 3 nat to be fair regardless of costs have a Nighthawk router which i used when i had Fibre,I am all for sorting a VPN but i do not know if I'm that technical to get it all up and running unless someone on here or someone else gives me easy instructions on how to do this.

The Billion 8900AX-2400 supports commercial VPN services (eg VPN Express, Nordvpn, vpn.ac etc), so well worth giving it a try. Anyway you can return the router to Amazon within 30 days for a full refund so its pretty much risk free. And most vpn providers offer a free trial period or give you a money back guarantee. I understand your frustration. I have not used mobile broadband for gaming, yet.. If i do decide to cancel my ADSL in favour of mobile then i'm sure the same issue you're having will rear its ugly head with me.

I am not well versed in nat types and the such to give you a definite answer to your question, only what i've read on other forums these past few days. It most likely does have something to do with your ip and whether you use a shared ip at the carrier side. Whether EE will have a fix for that issue, i'm not sure.

My advice would be to contact using their phone service and ask for technical help and hope you get someone who knows what you're talking about. If that fails, perhaps complaining to higher management via email and type up a firm but polite email in hopes for a fix.

https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/4GEE-WiFi/Public-Ip-ad...

I done a bit of googling while writing this and most of what i've seen tells the same story. I don't think you're going to get the public/static ip you need, not from EE anyway.

I think you'll have to try your luck with three or another provider. I may be wrong on this too but i think three offer 100gb data sims (not mobile sim plans) in store.

Take what i say as a pinch of salt though.

With a bit more reading i've found that people use the service from https://www.noip.com/ to sort similar issues. I have no idea how it works though. Perhaps others on the forum could give you a step by step guide on how to apply everything on your end after trialing the service.

Michael.

Didn't the thread about using a VPN say that you can use the AAISP one to get a static IP address off them without them being your ISP?

With the old EE 100GB for £10 deal SIM ages ago was able to Xbox game via tethered connection to a tablet, so behind the NAT of the tablets Wi-FI hotspot and the NAT of the 4G network.

Though it will vary from game to game as some developers don't consider the 4G gaming issues

Thanks Michael for your help mate appreciate your time and effort, just seems strange in the days of online gaming and its popularity we have these gaming issues and I'm sure EE or other mobile broadband providers could fix it .

Glad i could be of some help. Though, going back and reading some of the things i remember, it appears i got most of that info from on this forum, your post in fact lol And the other forum members explain a lot better than i do. I've been on multiple forums these past few days reading up on mobile broadband and everything melds into one, plus it was very late in the evening smile

I do hope you get your issue sorted. I've had nat trouble in the past with another ADSL provider. Most of the time it can be sorted at your end, other times it's better just to switch provider and be done with it. But i don't think you're going to get anywhere with EE, not without technical intervention on your side.
