Re: In which I move the router

[re: kommando] [link to this post]

Yeah, my plan was to start with a USB extension cable, rather than worrying about RF cable losses. But I don't think I'm going to get better than 50/20 with 2x2 MIMO, right?

Three unlimited SIMO, replacing 3 km ADSL line.
Previously: BT ISDN, Nildram, Plusnet, 186k, EFH, Be*, Plusnet (again), Pulse8, Sky, Plusnet Business, TalkTalk Retail.

50/20 is what I get with CA on band 3 and band 20, the interim pre 5G upgrade for Three is to add Band 32 'L band' as an extra CA download only but at bandwidth 20 Mhz. That will double the download speeds as Band 3 is 15 Mhz and Band 20 5 Mhz on rural masts.

I have a sat dish type aerial due next week to hopefully get better signal and a Mikrotik LHG to aim at a Vodafone mast, Both will then feed into a Draytek dual Wan router for load balancing.

Re: ob. TBB speedtest

5G is going to be using higher frequencies than 4G (in some cases much higher). Which means you'll need to be closer to masts to get the same signal strength as on 4G.

If you're only getting 20MB from the mast over 4G you must be a reasonable distance from it (assuming you're on band 3), I doubt you'll be seeing any improvement from 5G on the same mast.

5G is more about bring more capacity to congested urban areas.

Ah, I see you're managing 50MB now. My point about 5G not be aimed at improving rural coverage still stands though wink

L band show work well on rural masts, 5G at low frequency would work too, just have to wait and see. Triple and quad Wan routers are available if not. Never going back to BT.

Thanks for the info. The 1500 MHz band will pass me by until I upgrade from my cheapo stick, which only supports DD800, 900, 1800, 2100 and 2600 on LTE.

To be clear, this location is only "rural" in the sense that it's an uneconomic area for fibre, thanks to a quirk of geography. The two closest masts are each less than a mile away and serve populations that make me believe they'll be upgraded fairly soon.

You opened the thread talking about rural ADSL and when I was commenting you'd been reporting 20MB 4G downloads, hence me assuming you really were rural and some distance from the mast wink

160Mbps. Wow!

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.
