Hauwei 525 help and questions...

[link to this post]

Hi. Ive been using various mobile broadband routers and antennas for years as our main broadband due to our preference for rural living, mainly with Three. Its been fine with little tinkering until we moved house a couple of months ago.

Now the speed massively drops, and Im pretty sure its a band issue. Sometimes the signal strength indicates good signal (full bars) but I only get 2mbps. When the router shows 2 or 3 bars, I get 30-40mbps.

Is there anything, other than flashing the firmware on the 525 to get band options, that I can do to switch it back to the faster band (and keep it on it)? Is there anyway to see what band Im on?

We have got iOS devices, if that makes any difference (in terms of apps at).

Thanks.

Thanks.

Ok, I may have answered my own question here...

I have downloaded LTEInspecteur onto my laptop and I have been able to set the router to B3. Back to nice decent speeds again smile

Can anyone tell me, is the setting persistent? Or will the router switch back to B20 at some point?

It will stay around even if you restart the device.

It will return to it's default settings if you reset the device via the functionality in the router homepage (for example if you want to sell it).

Its not in English, but scroll down till you see the non-portable version. Download (the app is actually in English) and install on a Windows machine.

I found the link in another thread on here.

Quite simple really. Band 20 has less bandwidth than Band 3, hence it is slower. Often Band 20 is a stronger signal and picked up in preference to Band 3. In the router settings page, click the 'Settings' tab. Make sure Band 20 is unchecked and click 'Apply'. You will then only use Band 3.

Thanks, I realise that but the 525 I have does not have that option in the settings.

Click on 'Dial-up' and scroll to Network Settings. It's there.

Trust me, it isnt. Most versions of the 525 dont have it.

Its why people install alternative firmware - https://forums.thinkbroadband.com/mobilebroadband/f/...

Its not there on the network unlocked versions of this device with latest firmware.

Youre probably on EE or Vodafone and relatively close to your mast.

Band 7 is 2600 MHz.

VirginMedia Cable M200 22/nov/19
7 years of FTTC VDSL BT then plusnet with sync from 55/12 to 46/5
20 years of broadband connectivity since 1999 trial - Live BQM

I can't select a band using that LQEinspector- when I do , the request to change frequency seems to get rejected by router - is this a firmware limitation? The bands show automatic and then lists them with B20, B3 wtc with a purple/blue background (I'm colour blind!)
