For others, as the poster I'm replying to knows that this is one of the reasons completely removing Huawei from 5G is such a problem. So many masts have Huawei 4G.

More interestingly, lots of Three masts are being swapped from previous vendor (e.g. Samsung, or others) to Huawei for 4G, and then having Huawei 5G added.

The Huawei decision impacts Three quite hard, and will be delaying other upgrades. It hits all the networks, others tend to have regions by make, e.g. a Huawei region, an Ericsson region, or a Nokia region.

Generally one of the big delays is getting 10 Gigabit connections to a site, but the Government didn't help. smile

Which although it may have been a reasonable strategy when adopted, could be dodgy considering the recent developments in HongKong.

Again, you will know this but some may not.

Three wasn't different to many networks in using Huawei hardware. Apparently it provides performance at a very good price. I understand Three had hit the buffers on performance with their Samsung 4G hardware; probably a reason why many areas need upgrades.

Yes, but with what is now happening, continuing probably unavoidably to replace other kit with Huawei is likely to be only a relatively short-term fix.

Well, my Three contract sim arrived. Surprisingly, speed tests come in on top vs my Smarty sim.

Same conditions, same settings, same apn and also server on Ookla

SMARTY - 1.29 down / 10.4 up

Three - 11.7 down / 12.7 up

And similar results, if not less for SMARTY, on the 3 total tests I completed.

Your Three SIM should let you use different APN, but reports are that Smarty forces you to the same APN whatever you enter. Also I read that Smarty uses an HTTP proxy cache for all web traffic, which Three does not.

You can see why they are cheaper.
