Mobile Broadband and VoIP

[link to this post]

Hi,

I have used VoIP for years but now want to use it more on my mobile, but have noticed my EE Mobile SIM now blocks VoIP connections, which it never used to.

It still works on my mobile over broadband (Vodafone) via Wifi but not when on cellular data.

Anyone know which other mobile providers support VoIP?

I have read Three and O2 support VoIP.

Has anyone any experience of VoIP working with these providers?

After 15 years, I'm going to switch from EE (Orange) and want this to work with new provider.

Many thanks, Fleddy

I have an EE SIM in my iPhone 12 Pro and I'm using an AAISP VoIP sevice via the Acrobits Softphone app (https://www.acrobits.net/). Working fine.

What block are you getting?

I'm using the Sipnetic App on Android, connecting to a Sipgate service.
I've 12 accounts with SIPgate, non of them register on cellular, they used to and they do over Wifi.

I'd read elsewhere that EE were blocking VoIP traffic.

If you have it working, I'll investigate more... as I thought it was a property of the provider.

No issues here using Sipgate Basic over EE and Vodafone 4G. I'm using Grandstream Wave Lite on my iPhone 12. Try a different voip app, see if that helps. Its a shame that Sipgate don't provide a native smartphone app, as using a third party voip app isn't quite the same wrt functionality, eg being able to access voicemails, voicemail to text etc. Best native voip apps I've used are Yay and BT's Cloud Voice Express.

No problems here either - dual Sipgate account sign-in using the Acrobits Groundwire app. Happy on both Vodafone and EE.

Havent heard of any UK mobile net’s that actively block VoIP calls.

[impressed with the 12 sipgate accounts / are you running a mobile contact centre 🤣]

Oh I have - Vodafone used to do this extensively.

Do you have any content filtering turned off on EE as I can well believe that's blocking it.

Actually thinking on it, the only time I ever had hassle with VoIP calling over mobile broadband was Relish when they had a limited 3.5 GHz based network in central London (way before Three bought them). They didn’t outright block VoIP, but it was a whole bundle of grief get it working reliably.

EE and Vodafone have both always been fine in my experience with them.
