How Do You Get PAYG Mobile Nmbr Back After Losing Phone/SIM?

[link to this post]

A bit off topic but I have a PAYG mobile phone what would happen if I lost the phone/SIM or needed a replacement due to damage?

With the mobile number being tied to many different financial and other accounts for an additional level of security like one off codes via SMS it is important if the worse did happen and my phone was lost/damaged what is the procedure that mobile phone providers use to be able to get your mobile number back/replacement SIM?

Without access to your mobile phone number you can really be in trouble accessing your finances!

As I use a PAYG provider (Asda) they do no have my name/address in my account how do they know they are issuing replacements to the rightful owner?

Thanks

What I know is that with a Vodafone contract you can change the Sim card by logging into their website. The shops will give you spare Sims. I have one. You can always contact whoever supplied the Sim.

Are you able to sign up for an online account for that number with your provider?

If so, it would then be easy enough to contact them in case of loss and get a straight replacement.

My mum uses Asda PAYG plan which I setup online. There is a section to add your Billing Address to the account as well as a section to suspend Lost or Stolen sim. Plus it is easier to do topups this way as well.

Thanks for suggestions adding a billing address certainly makes sense.

If anyone has actually reported a lost/damaged SIM and can say what checks your provider did that would be useful information.

If you have first hand experience of doing this with Asda even better smile

Thanks
