High Ping with Three 5G Hub and NAT Type Strict

[link to this post]

So I’ve just received three 5G hub, I did have Vodafone but couldn’t get higher than 4G. I can get 5G with three and receiving high download and upload speeds as well as ping. But when I’m gaming the ping is so high it ranges from 60ms-180ms. It’s nearly unplayable. I currently can’t get WiFi in my area so this is my only way atm. I’m also having issues with nat type strict and upnp unsuccessful. Any advice on how to solve the two?

On the ping its mobile not FTTP even if it is 5G not 4G, not going to get much better especially on Three who allow too many subscribers in mast area's.

As for NAT then you need to use the '3 internet' APN where you get a dedicated IP address instead of it being shared. If you are connecting through a second router then the 5G router needs to be set into Bridge mode if the firmware allows it to stop double NAT.

Hi thank you for replying to my post, I’ve managed to enable upnp and the ping isn’t too bad now. My only issue now is that whilst playing Xbox literally within 20 minutes or half way through the game my whole router will reboot and disconnect. Do I have to adjust any other settings? There’s port forwarding, dmz etc..

Not a gamer so guesswork, but did you change APN to 3 internet, even though its a fixed IP address it may be changing to a new fixed IP address every 30 mins or so and that causes a reboot. What model router do you have and are you using a program on the PC to fix the connected bands etc eg LTE H monitor as an example. Fixing bands may help if the signal is marginal.

Just a minor point. It isn't a fixed, i.e. static, IP address. It's dynamic, just not shared.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G and at home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MF286D router giving about 113/20Mbps.

Clearly, something is badly wrong with your setup. The router should not reboot.
I don't have 5G coverage, but have been using Three 4G for years. The latency is a bit terrible. usually more than 30ms, sometimes more than 100ms. The connection stays rock solid - I only use Huawei modem/routers partly because they seem to work better than other brands.
Three speeds vary a lot depending on which cell you are linked to and the time of day. Blisteringly fast at 4am.
It does matter which apn you use, though. three.co.uk is iffy. Far better to use 3internet which also gives you a routeable IP, though not a fixed ip.
