force 5G on 3

[link to this post]

I have a 3 provided Zyxel 5g modem/router. I live just outside 3's official 5G coverage but the package was cheap and the router performs better in terms of speed on 4g thand the previous Huawei and has bridge/passthrough mode so no double NAT.
A couple of days ago it started giving a 5G connection with signal strength up to 3 out of 5 bars on the router home page and speeds up to 250mbps. This seemed stable for at least 3 days. Foolishly I tried moving the router to see if the signal strenght improved but after powering off and returning to its original position ist's back to 4g. Cell ID and bands have changed. Any suggestions for getting it back onto 5G?

There a couple of excellent large-ish threads on the NR5103E from Three over at ISPR. See here and here.

Good luck.

Excellent 👍

There have been a few cases where that hasn’t helped. The router either remains stubbornly stuck on an older b9 firmware version and/or simply refuses to play ball with 5G.

Saying that mine ‘just worked’ and upgraded itself to b10 after a few minutes. Has been golden ever since really.
