If they haven't got 5G panels, or they do have but not activated, then they aren't "completed" 5G masts tongue.

Connections: Pixel 6a on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G, OnePlus 8 Pro on EE in reserve. At home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MC888 router giving 5G most of the time..

Not actually the case. The "5G panel" people refer to is actually a "Massive MIMO" antenna, which is extremely useful for 5G. I understand (could be wrong) that this is about adding capacity and performance, so very useful on the higher band (frequency) transmissions.

I understand you can run 5G signals on traditional antenna panels, for example 700 MHz (band 28), and some networks are sharing this between LTE (4G) and NR (5G) transmissions, similary on 2100 MHz (band 1).

Each network does this its own way, with its own spectrum assets, but sharing spectrum is common whilst a lot of 4G only handsets are still in use nationwide.
