Given the commitments need to be signed, nothing will start until mid 2025 I read... and the commitments require the merged entity to keep discounted plans... they COULD (and might have to) keep both SMARTY and VOXI as separate brands, owned by the merged entity. I think we will see the Three name and brand disappear, this will be the "new Vodafone".

whom are owned by Currys plc so they will have a contract with "Hutchison 3G UK Ltd" and that will have to be novated over to the new merged entity in due course.

Given the requirement to invest in 5G infrastructure surely the new company would be called 'Five'.

This can go one of two ways in my view. Either...

EE finally feel the pressure as they lose their USP of being the 'best network'

or

The the remaining three networks operate a cartel and we all pay more for less

Or both.

We know that the organized workers of the country are our friends. As for the rest, they don’t matter a tinker’s cuss - Manny Shinwell

Connections: Pixel 9 on Three 4+ (LTE)/5G, Pixel 6a on EE in reserve. At home Three Mobile, with (Three)ZTE MC888 router giving 5G on a good day.

That is my worry along with mass layoffs.. I look at voda, and nothings really changed with them over 20 years - its like a stagnant woolworths. Do i think we will benifit from this. Again no, very rarely does mergers of this kind do.

And I'm on Three for both mobile and "Home Broadband" frown. Though I have brsk 500/500 on order to replace the Home Broadband. I was thinking if keeping the Three as a fallback option.

The brsk was scheduled for this estate to go live 30 November. As far as I know it's all wired up from the poles but not yet to the backhaul/spine a mile away. On the other had I see a nearby street that I expect will get it has an "any objections" lamppost notice about a new (not replacement) telegraph pole for them. That might be the holdup as it's new and undated frown.

I'll go for a walk around that area to see if there are any more.

Or it was a silly idea to name the company after a technology that changes every 10 years?

EE finally feel the pressure as they lose their USP of being the 'best network'

Quite possible; but this will take many years to determine. At the moment VF & 3 have built network to compete for the same customers; so to rationalise this may cause some people to get a worse signal than today. (as happened with T-Mob & Orange in 2010 to 2014).

The the remaining three networks operate a cartel and we all pay more for less

I suspect the CMA and Ofcom are (now) quite aware of that, and all they need is one whistleblower.

I'm hoping for Vodafone service levels with SMARTY pricing.

Sadly I'll probably get SMARTY service levels with VF pricing. Still - what is life without a little hope?

VOXI is pretty good if you have decent VF signal. I swapped my tablet from SMARTY to VOXI when the location I need the tablet on cellular had its Three & EE mast demolished by the local authority in building a new car park. You can't always blame the networks for poor signal. 🤣

Isnt that requirement only for a fairly short 3 year period though?

Some requirements are short, others longer. We will have to see what Ofcom do in the end (if anything!).

Yes; it's for corporate and shareholders' benefits - not for consumers. I am distinctly uninspired by cell operator's commitment to providing a service, and with the demise of copper landlines we need to see a cultural change inside these companies.

Well if this press release is anything to go by Three may disappear in Three years time.

The merger is expected to formally complete during the first half of 2025. Vodafone will own 51% of the equity and, after three years following completion and subject to certain conditions, Vodafone may acquire Hutchison's 49% stake via a Put and Call option.

CJT.

Currently on TalkTalk Fibre 150

Previously on NOW TV Broadband up to 38 Mbps, then BT Broadband up to 80Mbps, then Pluse8 Broadband up to 80 Mbps, then Hyperoptic 100Mbps.
