Wireless router & wireless bridge query

OK, within one room of my flat, I have a wireless router and a wireless print-server/switch. Both Netgear, DG834GT and WGPS606 respectively. The wireless print server has a 4 port switch and can act as a bridge to other wireless/wired networks with an access point.

Anyway, my PC and printer are physically connected to the WGPS606, which then connects wirelessly to my router and has Internet access as required. My laptop also connects wirelessly without problem with both Internet access and access to the PC & printer.

My question, when I use my laptop in the same room, will it connect first to the wireless print-server then to the router, or the other way around, or whichever has the stronger signal? Just curious.

Oh yeah, the router acts a a DHCP server too.

It'll connect to the router then to the wireless print server - it's the router that's acting as the access point to the network, not the wireless print server.

Thanks for that Pandemonium, I get it now; the router has an access point, which provides access for both my laptop and my wireless print-server. So from this, I gather my print-server does not have an access point, and therefore, I cannot connect to it, except via the router

So, if I wanted to copy a lot of data, it would be much quicker to temporarily connect my laptop to the wireless print-server via Cat5 cable.

So, the bottom line is that my wireless print-server provides the ability for up to 4 connected PCs and 2 printers (I suppose that is a small network itself) to gain access to my wireless network (which is actually just my router and laptop). But, I cannot wirelessly connect directly to this small network, only via the router.

Correct, the wireless print server is acting as a bridge to the wireless network.

I too have a DG834GT and am just getting a WGPS606.

My next purchase is going to be a NAS drive, so that my PC (which I will connect to the WGPS606 wired) and a laptop which connects to the DG834GT can share files (mp3's DVD's etc).

My question is which of the two would it be BEST to connect the NAS drive to, the DG834GT or WGPS606, or doesn't it make any difference?

I guess it will work just fine either way. Are there any other factors such as ease of access or the need to hide it out of the way?

Your set-up sounds similar to mine, though I have now shifted the printer, PC and WGPS606 to a different room. I suppose if performance is an issue, it would be best to locate it adjacent to the hardware you use most, i.e. if you use your PC most, connect the NAS to the WGPS606, if you use the laptop more, then connect the NAS to the DG834GT. If it was 50/50, I would probably connect it to my WGPS606 and place it out of the way.
