connecting to btinternet with a linksys router

Hi, i've been trying to configure the Linksys WAG54G to connect to a btinternet account, without any luck

the settings i have are taken from the information on this site:
::Typical settings for ADSL in the UK are as follows:

VPI = 0, VCI = 38

ADSL Modulation Auto, then try G.DMT, then try ANSI T1.413
Encapsulation Mode PPP over ATM (PPPoA - RFC2364) VC-MUX
Authentication CHAP

have set these settings, asved info (user/pass is correct, checked them with adsl router plugged in

gateway status shows:

Interface: Down
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Default Gateway: 0.0.0.0
DNS 1: 0.0.0.0
DNS 2: 0.0.0.0
DNS 3: 0.0.0.0

DSL Status shows:

DSL Modulation Mode: NOT TRAINED
DSL Path Mode: FAST
Downstream Rate: 0 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 0 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 20 db
Upstream Margin: 26 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 36
Upstream Line Attenuation: 19
Downstream Transmit Power: 0
Upstream Transmit Power: 0

PVC Connection

Encapsulation: RFC 2364 PPPoA
Multiplexing: VC
Qos: UBR
Pcr Rate: 0
Scr Rate: 0
Autodetect: Disable
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Enable: Yes
PVC Status: Applied -- saved

any ideas to whats wrong ?

sorry forgot to re-attach phoneline when getting DSL status
heres updated:

DSL Status: UP
DSL Modulation Mode: GDMT
DSL Path Mode: FAST
Downstream Rate: 2272 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 288 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 18 db
Upstream Margin: 25 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 35
Upstream Line Attenuation: 19
Downstream Transmit Power: 0
Upstream Transmit Power: 0

now it seems to get the settings but is not assigning an IP, the other status screen doesn't change

also, the conncet/disconnect boxes are greyed out
