Connect Wireless Router To Wireless Router

[link to this post]

Is there anyway on earth I can get my wireless router to act as an access point and connect to another wireless router by wifi and not with an ethernet cable..I own 2 Netgear DG834's...
Basically i've partitioned Windows Vista yet there are no wifi drivers out for my wifi card..Therefore I was thinking, because my pc is too far away to use cables I could plug in a 2nd wireless router to my Vista machine and get it to pick up the WiFi Signal of the wireless router that connects to the internet (in a seperate room) and route the internet through to my pc so I can use Vista on the net

I am interested in this too. I recently experienced some problems regarding my ADSL connection and thought it could be a problem with my cabling. In the end it didn't prove to be that but something to do with a telephone pole hit by lightening. Anyways, it got me thinking rather than have my wireless router (DG834G) in my room (connected to the phone line via an extension cable) it could be better to plug it directly into the main BT socket.

But, I don't want to run a cable from the router plugged into the main socket all the way up into my room. So I wanted to know if I could get a device which (a) receives a wireless connection (e.g. like your laptop would in a normal wireless setup), (b) allow cable connection to my PC (I don't have a wireless card in there) and (c) transmit the wireless connection for other wireless devices to pick up (this isn't absolutely necessary because I will still have the DG834G offering wireless connectivity).

My initial thought was I could get a another wireless access point/router to do the job but now I'm thinking that it won't do part (a) of my requirements... or can it be configured to do so?

I think thats called bridging ? I`ve done similar with two linksys WRT54 GS routers, one is connected to the net the other is upstairs connected to my PC, Xbox etc. A quick look on google has not turned up much on that router ??

There are possibly some other products that would serve this purpose so look around!

A Linksys WET11 Wireless Bridge would fulfil requirements (a) and (b). However if you would definatley like something to perform function (c) then you could connect the WET11 to a Hub such as the Linksys EFAH05W which would then connect to your computer; also you would need to connect a futher access point such as the Netgear WPN802 to the Hub.

With manufacturer (Netgear) firmware the DG834 cannot act as a wireless bridge like the Linksys range.

If you need (or want) a wireless bridge you could purchase a Linksys WET11, they are dead cheap on eBay and you could sell one of your 834's while you're at it.
