WAG54GS File sharing Probs

[link to this post]

Hi all

I have the above WAG54GS working great for the internet, Main PC hard wired into router, 2 other PC's via wireless linksys adapters and an Xbox 360 via the Linksys Xbox wireless adapter.

I now wont to set up file and printer sharing, I have tried this a few times but have never been able to see the other computers on the network, all firewalls are set correctly(me thinks) and I can ping the 2 wireless PC's from the main PC. My son assures me that Linksys equipment does not like sharing files or printers. All PC's are on the same workgroup

any help would be greastly received please explain in simple terms as techno speak loses me

Cheers

Can you ping the other way?

Good move.

Do you have NetBIOS or NetBEUI over tcp/ip enabled?

Other than that, the bestt hing to do is to enable some shares on 1 machine and see if you can find them using network neighbourhood on the same machine. That will at least prove you are 'sending' - without which, it is a waste of time to try 'recieving'. Be patient, some times network shares take several minutes to show up.

Hi There

I also have a WAG54G and have enabled file and printer sharing via a windows workgroup. all works fine, but sometimes it takes a while for the network connections to recognise each other (like virtual circuit setup takes a while).

I did not need to make any changes to the default settings on the router to achieve this, but I did have some random problems with wireless devices not connecting properly, which was resolved by upgrading to the latest firmware for the router. I downloaded it from the linksys ftp site.

We now have 3 laptops connecting wirelessly and two machines connecting via ethernet, all can share the files and printer no problemo.
