Router Problems with TalkTalk

[link to this post]

Hi,

I recently purchased a Philips SNA6500 ADSL WiFi router to use my TalkTalk ADSL internet connection with. Previously, I used the Speedtouch USB modem I received when signing up.

However, despite having followed the instructions on the Support area of their website, and double checking my username/password/protocol/vci/vpi etc. I keep receiving CHAP authentication failure from my modem.

I've read on this website about the bt_test@startup_domain login, and this works fine - connects straight through and seems to do so very quickly. But whatever settings I've tried with TalkTalk I just cannot access the ADSL through my router.

I've double checked my username/password several times, and verified with their Tech Support that passwords aren't case sensitive, but still can't get this information authorised.

I've upgraded the firmware on my router to the very latest provided by Philips.

In the meantime, I can still access TalkTalk using my normal USB modem, and have been assured by TalkTalk Tech Support that my account hasn't been a victim of Selective Service Barring. Although I have been told by their Tech Support that "TalkTalk doesn't support connections using routers" - this was only one guy who told me this however, and I was quick to point out that their website contains settings for routers.

I was hoping someone would be able to share any secrets on making TalkTalk work with ADSL routers!

Any help would be appreciated.

I've had exactly the same problem with trying to connect it on BT Broadband. Has anyone got any ideas?

Could Windows Vista be it's downfall?

I had exactly this problem and it took me a year to convince the AOL "help" desk that it was a real problem ( ie I was plugging everything in corectly and entering the correct password etc).

Eventually they passed it on to BT who discovered that something was not set up correctly in their software. I'm afraid I don't know the exact details but it has been fine ever since.

My advice is stick to your guns and get them to investigate thouroughly.

I was thinking of the free service which is LLU. As you rightly say, not everyone has that and the chargeable service uses IPStream. I guess we should ask people what service they are on as they will not know that it makes a difference..
