wireless bridging 2 houses

Ive been asked by a friend if its possible to link two houses via a wireless bridge (houses are 20m apart), which obviously it is, but what is the simplest cheapest solution to try?

House A has a BT home hub, and house B has a laptop with a wireless adapter that has a removable antenna.

Is it possible to replace the antenna on the laptop device with something more directional or will that only boost the signal for the laptop end, but not the home hub end?

Another solution im guessing is to use 2 wireless bridge devices like the linksys WET11 at either end of the link with ethernet running to each device in each house?

Advice much appreciated.

If House A puts the hub at the nearest window, or wall, can the laptop see the hub signal ?

I would look to use a WDS-capable access point in House B with the hub and it configured to work together to provide extended coverage into House B. It just needs a location in B where the AP can see the Hub in A.

I used to work on the basis of 30 metres or 3 walls foe wireless.

I'm interested in the same / similar solution for a friend running a villa complex in Crete. The current Tornado 841 (Allied Data) wireless ADSL modem router (4 ethernet ports) is located in the main reception area (Level 1). He wants to extend this to the bar area (Level 2) - there is thick concrete between the two floors so the current wireless signal from the Tornado does not extend as far as is needed). He purchased a seperate Linksys wireless router / AP and we tried connecting the two on the same LAN via a CAT5 connection run from Level 1 to Level 2. Despite many hours we could not get the two devices to co-exist and so extend the wifi LAN upto Level 2..... thats the background... I put the issues down to incompatibilities between the Tornado and Linksys devices.
I'm now looking at using two devices from the same manufacturer - the DLink DSL-G624T 4 port adsl router (on level 1) and the DLink DWL-2100AP (on Level 2)... I feel confident that this solution will work .... but does anyone have any experience of setting up this configuration (or similar) or with experience with either of these devices ?

wiring in an access point with Cat5 should be simple enough. You need to check the default IP addresses of the devices don't clash but other than that there is little to go wrong.
