some numbers would help. See link in sig below. Describe your phone wiring, what's plugged in, where the filters are.

I cant run a speed test because I cant get it online long enough at the moment, I have the bt home hub. I have a filter plugged into the wall phone socket then a dsl cable to the router. I have a phone plugged into the router aswell. It is an old one that is only compatible for outgoing calls I think. As when i ring it it doesnt ring. But im not bothered about that I just want to get the wireless sorted. Im using a usb bt wireless adapter.

Thanks

line statistics from hub - connection speed, attenuation, margin. Speedtests are fairly useless.

You only have one phone and it is plugged into the Home Hub ?

No sky box, other phone, alarm, fax, caller ID unit etc ?

Extensions hard wired from master socket ?

Have you tried taking the lower half faceplate off the BT master socket and plugging into the test socket behind ?

For the phone ringing, are you using the BT supplied adapter to plug it in ? If you unplug the phone does anything change ?

The connection speed varies. I have two phones, one plugged into the microfilter and one plugged into the hub using their adapter. There are no extensions anywhere.

Until you produce the attenuation and snr margin figures with their corresponding modem speeds you'll have to ask a Panorama journalist for an opinion.

If you don't know where to look on the Hub for these see Kitz's site linked from the site in the link below :-

BTW. The first thing to ask is: it is your wireless connection that is failing or ADSL?

Opne a commnd prompt and type: ping 192.168.1.254 Enter the result here.

I also had same kind of problem of with Home Hub.... finally i sorted of the issue it could be somewhat funny but this is really a fact....

my broadband works fine superb until 6pm and after 6pm it drops immediately.....i went some advive from my THD ppl and tried changing filters, connected to master socket, and removed the face plate of the main socket and as suggested left it connected to test point socket for more than 3 days.... but no joy.....

atlast I found whats the problem is....usually i place this home hub near window were there was a sodium lamp.... after 6 PM normally we turn it on during evenings only..... one day i didnt trun on the lamp my goodness BB is working even after 6 PM..... i tried turning it on it stopped working..... then i immediately tried changing the position of the Hub somewhat away from the lamp and i never got the issue again....
