Safecom NSUR-10100F network HD problem

[link to this post]

I have one of these, and for some reason it can no longer 'see' the enclosed hard drive. I've used the reset button on the back, I've connected it via USB and ethernet but still no joy. Anyone had or heard of this problem or know a way of getting it 'back'? I've also had it apart and all the connections are as should be. Thanks in advance!

i have one of these but i have never experienced any major problems with it.
Did you do any settings on it before it packed up.
Have you confirmed that the hard disk is ok by using it on something else or tried a different hard disk within the enclosure.
Can you still access the enclosure utility via your browser.

Come back more info and we will try to help.

I've had it a while now and it has worked fine before till now. I can also still access the enclosure utility via a browser and it simply says 'Disk not found!'. My gf did unplug it when it was connected via USB (only) yesterday but she's not sure that she ejected it properly though I don't think that would have stopped it working, it's not even spinning.

Try the enclosure on a different PC - what os are you using eg xp
Can you take the hard disk out of the enclosure and try it on a pc just to confirm that the disk is ok.
Your hard disk may have failed?
If it is reconised and you can see the data imediatly copy and back this up.
If installing it in the PC the hardisk is not reconised then it could be a hard disk failure.

I haven't the option of trying it on a different PC at the moment and I can't simply use it in mine as it's a laptop. I am thinking about buying a different USB2 enclosure for about a tenner just to see if it will work in that.

Trying it on a diffrent usb2 enclosure is probably the best option at this stage.

Don't forget the simple rule for the safecom enclosure
1.The HD must have the jumpers set to master
2. The HD must be formated fat32. Uusing the browser utility utils is advised. - DONT DO THIS IF YOU CURRENTLY HAVE DATA THAT I S IMPORTTANT TO YOU.

Let us no how you get on when you have tried the new usb2 enclosure

Well the USB2 enclosure arrived and sure enough, it works a treat, the hard drive is not at fault, thank god! I wonder where I stand with a faulty network enclosure bought of ebay about 6 months ago. :/

I should amagine you will be asked to goto the Safecom support site.
Just check that your hard drive is set to master. When i first had mine i remeber getting a slight problem.
This was cured by ensuring that the drive jumper was set to master and not cable select.

I shall give the support site a go but I think the enclosure is knackered. The HD wouldn't spin even set to master.
