Low signal strength and a bit of lateral thinking

[link to this post]

I've been experiencing painfully low signal strengths from my wireless router over the last few days. I'd changed its position from the bedroom extension to the master socket when I switched ISP last week, and so I assumed that was something to do with it. I set about moving the router back to its old position and then I saw the answer staring me in the face. A baby monitor transmitter unit, switched on, belching out RF. Switched it off, speed and strength was restored. It was a bit redundant anyway. My baby doesn't need amplification...

Will be running in the 2.4Ghz range. Chances are they just happen to be on the same channel and switching the channel of either the monitor or the router would also fix the problem.

In most situations the narrower-bandwidth ADSL router wi-fi signal will win over the higher-bandwidth sender, because the power is squeezed into a narrower bandwidth (this especially applies to video senders), but of course if the two units are in close proximity they won't work well.
