Linksys AM200 ADSL modem + DLINK 655 Wlan router

[link to this post]

Hi,

I am moving out of a cable area and still want to use my great D-Link DIR-655 N-Router so I bought a Linksys AM200 ADSL modem.
I had a quick read through the Linksys modem and it seems its actually a router with NAT and Firewall etc.
Can somebody explain how I setup the modem with the router? And should I disable the FW on the linksys or is there some way to make the linksys a stupid modem...
I remember my old ADSL modem (in germany) was just a modem that dialled into the ISP and nothing else.. behind that I had a router too.

Hi, you can use the D-Link DIR-655 N wireless Router as an access point connected with Cat5e RJ45 Ethernet lead to the Linksys AM200 ADSL modem/router.

Configure your LAN (Local Area Network) wired and wireless with static IP Address and no DHCP.
http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/static-ip-address.asp

Configure the D-Link DIR-655 to Bridge mode and it will become a wireless access point with DHCP Disabled.

This easy to understand network configuration tutorial will show you where to make the static IP Address settings.

Hi,

I will now return the Linksys... I will get the Draytek Vigor 110 ADSL 2+ Ethernet Modem with is just a straight through pppoe to pppoa adsl modem. All I need to do as far as I understand is configure the DIR-655 N router Internet connection settings to PPPoE mode and set the username and password...

no stupid doublenatting and static routes etc.

thanks E7er for your help though
