Just to hopefully save others from wasting time trying to get a Belkin "Vision 11N1" (F5D8232) router to run at the advertised 300Mbps (max) with a Belkin 11N client (F5D8013), also 300Mbps.
After much miss-information and wasted time, it turns out that the "11N1" range is only rated at 150Mbps with other (ie non belkin 11N1) 11N equipment - be it Belkin's or anyone elses. This is not stated on the box (well I can't see it), and 300Mbps claim has just the normal provisos.
And also, if you select the "Access Point" mode (no WAN/NAT stuff) the fancy LCD display sits there with pointless upload / download speeds and a clock that claims to be in the year 2000 (and the time is wrong) as it no longer accesses an NTP.
And on a different note, can anyone give me what seems like a Vista or Acer laptop specific reason for the speedtest applet loading and running but then being unable to download the actual test files (a new Acer 5735 with Vista HP and all the updates). The port 80 option does not work either, but another PC on the LAN behind the same Cisco SOHO firewall works fine. I tried both FF and IE and disabling the pre-installed McAfee firewall and also a wired lan connection but none helped. Oddly, on the IE / Tools / Internet Options / Advanced tab I get no "Java" section, but the applets are definately running, just unable to access external data it would seem.
