Just remind me......

[link to this post]

It's so long since I connected via Ethernet - wireless connection (Virgin cable modem via Belkin router) always connects well. This morning I wanted to see what speeds I was getting via a direct connection (I get 14Mb/s via wireless on a 20Mb connection, so not bad) but I'm getting the 'limited or no connectivity' message' on the ethernet line.
Please remind me of the troubleshooting steps for this. I have re-booted everything already. Many thanks.

Hi, this might help to clear the problem...

Info to assist with network configuration use ipconfig /all http://www.vcn.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=360

1. Connect to a different port on the router

2. Right click mouse on the taskbar Ethernet connection icon, and click repair.

3. Flush DNS on your computer from command prompt.

To flush DNS cache in (Win XP, Win ME, Win 2000):-
Start -> Run -> type cmd
in command prompt, type ipconfig /flushdns
Done! You Window DNS cache has just been flush.

Just back from work. Thanks, I'll try all of that. Any idea why the wireless works fine but not the wire? Most posts on here are the opposite problem!

You might want to check the network settings for TCP/IP on the ethernet connection to make sure that it is set up to get an address automatically.
