I have just bought a TOshiba N110 Netbook and am trying to connect to my Netgear Dg384GT wirelessly, but having no luck at all.
It finds the router ok but will not connect, I have tried every way I know (not much) including turning off all security on router and still no joy.
If I connect up the o2 box ver2 it connects straightaway but as the o2 syncs 3meg lower than the netgear am reluctant to use it.
Any ideas people ??

Are you using the same SSID on the O2 box and the Netgear?

Tried using a usb flaqsh disk to transfer settings and that didn't work.
Just a thought when I put in the WPA key in on the router it is 16 figures long but when I go into the netbook the key is only 8 figures long, I change it to the router figures but it always changes back. Hope you understand what I mean.

Hmm, I have something similar here. A Compaq/HP laptop with built-in Atheros wifi refuses to connect to a DG834 V4. This laptop is fine with the previous Linksys router.

My Dell laptop connects to either router with no problem.

The Compac/HP laptop connects to the DG834 fine if we use the Netgear USB wifi dongle that came with the DG834 V4.

So, is this Netgear router not fully standards-compliant? Or is this an issue with Atheros chipsets?

I've seen similar discussions on other forums, and the DG834 V4 seems to be a common factor.

Does it work with a shorter key, that the netbook can handle??

Well, he doesn't even know what netbook it is, so I'm not confident of any of the info so far

Try with security turned off, if that works then turn security on, but try a simple key e.g. 1234 and see if that works.

Some devices do have issues with WPA, so you may have to fall back to 128 bit WEP

make sure it's a different SSID as well.

Yeah its a Samsung N110 don't know where I got Toshiba from.
Tried WEP, WPA and no security and nothing, have given up on it at the moment and gone back to the o2 router,

Have you checked what channel the netgear is using - if it is above 11 it may be that the netbook is using US channels which stop at 11.

This is a red herring. It's a Windows "security feature" which means that all "starred" passwords will appear to be be 16 characters long regardless of real length.
